Support for CPA and accounting firms

I take on part of your firm's workload under your brand: tax return preparation, bookkeeping, ITINs for clients. Especially useful if you serve immigrants and non-residents.

How I can help your firm

I work as an extension of your team: I prepare the work, your professional reviews and signs, and the client deals with your firm. It helps when you're short-staffed in season or when clients come in with situations your team rarely sees. What I take on: • Tax return preparation — 1040 (including immigrants with foreign income, FEIE and the Foreign Tax Credit), 1040-NR and dual-status, 1065, 1120-S, 1120, Form 5472 with pro forma 1120 for foreign-owned LLCs. Plus FBAR and Form 8938. • ITINs for your clients — as a Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA) I certify documents and file Form W-7, so the client doesn't have to mail an original passport to the IRS. Works for the primary applicant, spouse and dependents. • Bookkeeping — monthly bookkeeping, catch-up work, QuickBooks setup, payroll and 1099s for your firm's clients. • Russian- and Ukrainian-speaking clients — I help collect documents, explain to the client what is needed, and work through foreign statements and certificates for the return. How it works: • You remain the face to the client, sign the returns and own the final review. I work in your firm's software via remote access or prepare data for input — we agree on this at the start. • I work under an NDA and protect data in line with IRS requirements for tax professionals (Publication 4557). • I'm based in the US, so your clients' data never leaves the country. To share return information with a preparer outside the US, the IRS requires separate written consent from each client (§7216 rules).

How we start working together

From a trial engagement to a regular season.

1

Intro

We discuss the work you need, volume, deadlines, software and your firm's standards. We sign an NDA and an agreement.

2

Trial engagement

We start with a few returns or one bookkeeping client. You check quality and format, and we adapt the process to the way you review.

3

Workflow

We agree on document transfer, checklists, deadlines and who talks to the client and how. I collect client questions in a single list rather than one at a time.

4

Season and off-season

In season — returns and extensions. After April 15 — extended returns, bookkeeping, ITINs and catch-up work.

FAQ — working with firms

Common questions from CPA, EA and accounting firms

Usually your professional: you review the prepared work and sign the return as the preparer, and the client stays your firm's client. If it's more convenient for me to sign certain returns, we discuss it upfront and put it in the agreement.
