ITINAugust 4, 2026

Do I need an ITIN if I don't have an SSN but had US income?

КД
Most likely yes. An ITIN lets you file a tax return when you are not eligible for an SSN. As a Certifying Acceptance Agent I handle ITINs without mailing your original passport to the IRS. More: Getting an ITIN.
ResidencyJuly 28, 2026

I'm on an F-1 (or H-1B) visa — am I a resident or nonresident for taxes?

КД
It depends on the visa and time in the US. F-1 holders are usually nonresidents (exempt individuals) for the first few years and file 1040-NR; H-1B more often falls under the substantial presence test. Best to confirm your exact status — get in touch.

My LLC is in Wyoming but I live in California. Where do I pay taxes?

КД
Both federally and in your home state. A Wyoming registration doesn't change that you are a California tax resident; and if you run the business from there, the LLC usually has to register in California as a foreign LLC and pay state fees. Full breakdown: The Wyoming no-tax LLC myth.
IRS ProblemsJuly 14, 2026

I got a CP2000 notice — is that an audit? What do I do?

КД
No — a CP2000 isn't an audit, it's a proposed adjustment from a data mismatch. You can disagree and send documents, but you must respond by the deadline. Step by step: You got a letter from the IRS.
Foreign accountsJuly 7, 2026

I have a bank account back home. Do I have to report it?

КД
If the combined balance of your foreign accounts was over $10,000 at any point in the year — yes, you must file an FBAR (FinCEN 114). It is a report, not a tax, but missing it can bring heavy penalties. More: FBAR.

Can I open a US LLC without an SSN while living abroad?

КД
Yes. You don't need citizenship or an SSN to open an LLC — it's done remotely and I obtain an EIN for the company. Just don't forget the ongoing filings (e.g., Form 5472 for a foreign owner). More: Opening an LLC.
